New Collective of MITZ Artisans

February 16 marked a significant day for the MITZ Foundation with the certification of the first community of 2024 within our network of MITZ artisans. On this occasion, the community of Los Remedios (Villa Victoria, State of Mexico) became the new home of our initiative. Twenty-seven women from the Mashaua community received their certification as weaving artisans after completing several intensive days of training in Life Skills (HPV) and weaving techniques. In addition, these women have taken a step forward by forming their own Collective of Artisans, an entity that will be responsible for distributing production and income fairly among its members, who are already producing MITZ products and meeting the highest quality standards.

This certification represents a proud moment and a significant step forward in our effort to empower women artisans, not only in urban areas, but also in rural communities, a new direction for the MITZ Foundation. In alliance with the Edificando Sueños Foundation, we identified this group of talented embroidery artisans, who are now equipped with new manual skills and strengthened in their life skills, in addition to having the structure of a community organization that guarantees sustainability in income generation.

The path to empowerment and economic development does not stop here. We are planning to work closely with the members of the collective in the establishment of savings banks, productive projects and other programs designed to generate a greater impact on their families and the community in general. This is just the beginning of an exciting journey toward social and economic transformation, a journey that promises to not only improve the lives of these women and their families, but also enrich the community of Los Remedios with new opportunities and hope.

At the MITZ Foundation, we remain committed to our mission of empowering women through art and craft, recognizing their intrinsic value and potential to lead change. We celebrate the success of this new collective of artisans and eagerly anticipate the fruits of this collaborative effort.
